April 2 Sudanese Refugee Shares his Story - 7 pm, Room T102, Genesee Community College, One College Rd., Batavia.
At about age 6, Jacob Atem escaped Sudan
after his parents were killed by a government-backed militia. Jacob, along
with thousands of other boys, left southern Sudan on foot and, during the
next five years, made their way to refugee camps, first in Ethiopia and
later in Kenya. Jacobs story as one of the Lost Boys of Sudan will
be the subject of his upcoming presentation at Genesee Community College
on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 7:00 pm in Room T102. The event, sponsored

The purpose of ths workshop, taught by Peter McGrain, is to introduce sutdents to the techniques involved in traditional stained glass painting and the Vitri-Fusaille process, which combines fused glass techniques with glass painting. An emphasis is placed on informing beginner students about which materials and techniques are available, how they are accomplished, and what the potential for their artistic use can be. Experienced glass painters, as well, are encouraged to participate as a way to broaden their own experiences with the medium.
