March 27 and 29, 2012

Genesee Community College will help the Genesee-Orleans Arts Council celebrate "Arts Awareness Month" in March with a Spring Arts Festival. The event is planned March 27 and 29 in the Forum at GCC, 1 College Rd.

Professional artists will welcome community members while presenting a variety of free art workshops.

On March 27, the festival will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and feature workshops on origami, bookbinding, painting, drawing, pottery, needle felting, drum making and photography.

On March 29, playwright Jeffrey Sweet will present a workshop and performance of his "You Only Shoot the Ones You Love."

"This is our opportunity to celebrate the arts here at GCC," said Moi Dugan, assistant professor of ceramics and 3-dimensional design. "We encourage everyone with an interest in learning about a new technique or experiencing a new art form to come out to GCC."

The Rosalie "Roz" Steiner Art Gallery at GCC will be hosting a student art exhibition in March, and The Forum Players, the college's student acting troupe, will also have performances.

This will be the 14th year that GO ART! organizes "Arts Awareness Month." The celebration happens each March and brings attention to local artists, performers and cultural organizations.
